These requirements are consistent across Parishes in the Diocese of St. Petersburg:
Parents must be committed to raising the child in the Catholic faith. This is explicitly asked during the rite itself.
Parents must attend a Baptism Preparation Class Required if this is their first child or if they have not attended a class in the past five years. This is standard in multiple St. Petersburg parishes.
Completion of a Baptism Registration Form Parishes require this to gather sacramental and family information.
Parents should be registered and practicing members of the parish where the Baptism will occur. Parishes need "some indication or assurance" that parents practice their faith.
Godparent Requirements (Canon Law 874, applied in the Diocese)
A godparent must:
Be at least 16 years old
Be a fully initiated Catholic (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist)
Be a practicing Catholic in good standing
Not be bound by any canonical penalty
If there are two godparents, they must be one male and one female (optional to have two; only one is required)
